May 18, 2021 – Deadline for the Clerk’s Office to receive your mailed absentee application for the June 1,2021 Special Congressional Election

May 15-29, 2021Early Voting and SDR expand, Monday to Saturday, most locations open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

May 25, 2021 – Recommended final day for voter to mail absentee ballot

June 1, 2021Election Day 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Absentee Ballot Voting Requirements

Requesting an absentee ballot

  • Download the absentee application here. Print, complete and mail (or hand deliver) to our office. 
  • Request an application by email. Send your request to clerk@bernco.gov and an application will be mailed to you.
  • Request an application by phone by calling (505) 243-VOTE (8683) option 2 and it will be mailed to you.

COMPLETING YOUR ABSENTEE BALLOT

Absentee ballots must be completed according to the instructions or they will be rejected.

  • Clearly mark your choices on the absentee ballot.
    • For write-in candidates you must fill in the oval in addition to neatly writing the name.
  • Insert the completed ballot into the inner envelope and seal it (using tape if necessary).
  • Insert the inner envelope into the outer mailing envelope.
    • Sign the outer envelope where indicated under the privacy flap.
    • Enter the last 4 digits of your SSN where indicated under the privacy flap.
  • Seal the outer envelope.

Returning Your Absentee Ballot

Please note that your absentee ballot must be prepared in the same way whether you mail or hand deliver it. Voters must follow all of the instructions or the absentee ballot will be rejected.

By Mail

The consensus among election officials and the U.S. Postal Service is that ballots mailed from a Bernalillo County location on or before May 25, 2021 will arrive by 7 p.m. on Election Day, June 1, 2021. After May 25, please hand deliver your ballot to ensure it arrives on time.

By Hand Delivery

There are several options for hand-delivery of your absentee ballot. Please note that if you hand deliver your absentee ballot, it still must be completed in accordance with the instructions or it will be rejected.

May 4 – 14, 2021 – Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. 

  • Clerk’s Annex – 1500 Lomas Blvd NW, Suite A (15th street and Lomas Blvd.)
  • At One Civic Plaza NW next to the COVID-19 screening entrance at 5th and Marquette.
    • There is a secure ballot box staffed by a poll official at this location. It is outside but not at the curb so you must exit your car.

May 15 – 29, 2021

  • Any of the Early Voting Convenience Centers – Monday to Saturday, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
  • At One Civic Plaza NW next to the COVID-19 screening entrance at 5th and Marquette. Monday to Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
    • There is a secure ballot box staffed by a poll official at this location. It is outside but not at the curb so you must exit your car.

June 1, 2021 – 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

  • Any of the Election Day Voting Convenience Centers 
  • Drive by ballot drop off location in front of City Hall on Marquette and 5th Street. Drive in left lane west on Marquette from 3rd street, watch for signs and personnel. Voters will drop off their ballot through a car window and receive an “I Voted” sticker.

Note: 

Most locations open Monday to Saturday 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Same Day Registration will be available at all locations during Early Voting.

 On Election Day voting centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.  70 Election Day Voting Convenience Centers will be open Tuesday, June 1, 2021 from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. 

Bernalillo County Voters may vote in-person or hand deliver a completed absentee ballot to any of these locations. There is also a drive through absentee ballot drop off location at 5th Street and Marquette.

Drop off absentee ballot at the 5th & Marquette drive through location:  Drive west on Marquette from 3rd Street adjacent to Civic Plaza in downtown Albuquerque. Stay in the left lane and watch for signs and personnel as you approach the old City Hall. Voters will deposit their completed absentee ballot into a drop box through the window of their vehicle. Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Election Day.
